| The Destructor (Kerwin Kormin) is watching a video of the Ms. Marvel and the Scorpion fight with A.I.M members. It is revealed that he is working for A.I.M. who wants the Destructor to capture Ms. Marvel; however they want him to be careful that his motives are not for revenge. The Destructor tells them he sold the lab to the Scorpion so he could start a crime career of his own. A.I.M announces that they want her alive, so she can explain the design of the costume she wears. The costume appears to be purely ornamentation, but x-ray photos reveal on the inside there is sophisticated electronic webbing which heightens her apparently natural ability to the sail the earths Electromagnetic Field. The science of the costume is light-years beyond A.I.M.'s and they find that fact intolerable. They worry that the Destructor will end up like The Scorpion. At that moment, they wheel out The Scorpion who they recovered soon after his acid bath. They have a nutrient solution on him that is healing his wounds and keeping him alive. The Destructor gives them a demonstration on his powers. He has developed the Tachyon Blast; a bolt of energy which moves faster than the speed of light and shatters anything with may lie in its path. Meanwhile, Carol is at her office at the Daily Bugle when Mary Jane-Watson drops in. Mary Jane tells Carol that Peter Parker is having a pow-wow with Daily Bugle City Editor. Carol asks Mary Jane to dinner. At dinner, Mary Jane reveals that she thinks of herself as a flake, but Carol disagrees. In time, Carol says, that she will find herself. The conversation turns to Carol's past. Another headache ends the dinner and Carol leaves in a hurry. In the taxi back to her penthouse, she passes out.In Florida, at a certain burned out cave near the Cape Kennedy Space Center, the Destructor looms, talking to himself. He reveals that he has been studying Ms. Marvel for weeks when she first appeared near the place where Captain Marvel, first came to earth. He also learns that the battle that Captain Marvel had with Yon-Rug released incredible amount of atomic energy. The Destructor concludes some of that atomic energy is what gave Ms. Marvel her powers and he wants the power to himself. Back at A.I.M’s New York Headquarters, a doctor and employee of A.I.M’s are discussing The Scorpion’s recovery rate. At that very moment, the Scorpion breaks free screaming to make the pain stop. He escapes the headquarters through a broken down elevator, which leads him to a Department store. A couple of security guards shoot at him but he escapes into the street. A manhole opens up in the street and two A.I.M’s employees pop out. They think it’s time to activate Plan Beta One. Back at Carol Danvers’s penthouse she awakes in her bed without knowing how she got there. She begins to worry and goes to the office of Dr. Michael Barnett, who is having a session with one of his patients. After pleading with Dr. Barnett, he agrees to see her. He puts under hypnosis to reveal her problems.Carol recalls the battle that Captain Mar-vell had in the cave. There was an explosion that Captain Mar-vell tried his best to shield Carol from. However, the radiation he couldn’t stop. Her failed attempt to capture Captain Mar-vell made her feel comfortable with her life at Cape Kennedy. So left her job and took a job writing. One morning six months after her accident, she had her first blackout and became Ms. Marvel in an instant. Dr. Barnett thinks at first that she is a victim of some massive paranoid delusion, until Carol blackouts in front of him and turns into Ms. Marvel. She flies out of the office leaving a bewildered Dr. Barnett alone in his office. Ms. Marvel flies to the center of Columbus Circle where the Scorpion is destroying the area screaming to crush Ms. Marvel. The Scorpion and Ms. Marvel begin to battle again, until the Destructor shows up and shoots his power Tachyon Blast at her. At the end of their battle both lay unconscious on the street. |
